Search Engine Optimization or Search engine optimization is the science that can help webpages rank naturally in search engines. You can have the most readily useful and intriguing web site, if nobody finds it, it is equal to zero. Obviously, there is other stuff to it, like the H1, H2, and H3 tags or code optimization, but before worrying about them, you can put those keywords in the right places and be a step ahead of your competitors who don't. Off-page optimization is a long term job and it could be a very time intensive one. When ranking pages, search engines will count the number of times that a page was quoted by other pages online. Then they'll look if those pages relate to topics related to yours plus they'll evaluate their authority. The page with the most links from high authority web sites in the same niche wins the first place in the internet search engine results pages.

The problem is that there may be niches where it is extremely hard to get other sites to link to you. If you can write compelling and intriguing copy and make others send your page to their buddies, link it on Facebook, mention it on Twitter or write about it on their blogs, you win. A good technique employed by big web sites is link baiting. Writing a good link luring pieces of content is no easy task. More often than not, there are creative agencies behind such web sites, copywriters who study the target group and find the best topics and words to arouse their interest and determine them to share this content. As ranking algorithms become increasingly more complicated, a webpage needs signals of relevance from multiple sources in order to get on top of the search results page.
